Yesterday was my grandpa’s 94th birthday.

Born in the roaring 20’s to parents who had longed for a child. Raised in the shadow of the Great Depression. Came of age during World War II, snuck into medical school for the Navy, married almost the day of his graduation, served active duty during the Korean War absent his two eldest daughters formative years. Pediatrician in a burgeoning new community. Active member of civic life, Citizen of the Year. Father of six, grandfather of 5,4,3,(zero),2,1. Great grandfather to an ever growing multitude.

The American Dream.

I am grateful he is my grandpa who loves me.

I am grateful he was my doctor.

I am grateful he asked me to care for my grandmother when he need help.

I am grateful for the example of living he provides.
